All Teaching Tools Involve a variety of problem-solving exercises.  And as much as we don’t like thinking about them, they’re important.  Why?  Because without them, there wouldn’t be any way to prompt the knowledge we’ve accumulated.  We’d never learn to put our abilities to use or test our strategies in a challenging situation.  More important, though, we’d have no way of knowing whether or not we were making any progress.  That being the case, it’s only fair to warn you that I’ve included some of those head-scratching exercises in this book, too.

Most of the exercises found here follow the sections on individual magical tools, and mastering them is essential to your practice.  It’s only through their successful completion that you can come to understand each tool and learn to use it to full magical capacity.  For this reason, work with each exercise until it becomes second nature.

To give you a starting point, I’ve divided the exercises into weeks.  This certainly does not mean that you’re expected to completely master any exercise listed within a seven-day time frame. (Some exercises are more difficult and take longer than others) Just work at your own pace and don’t get discouraged.  Remember that practice makes perfect, and that your magic is only as good as the effort you’re willing to put into it.

The Craft is not for everyone.  It’s not for people with chips on their shoulders or beefs against Christianity.  It’s not for folks who ride high on power trips or step on others to achieve success.  It’s not for bigots, or braggarts, or those too big for their britches.  It simply isn’t built that way.

Neither is it a role-playing game.  It has nothing to do with canned magic, or flying through the air, or snapping lightning from your fingertips.  You won’t be able to walk through mirrors without hurting yourself, or make thousands of dollars materialize in the split-second snap of your fingers.  And, no matter how hard you try or how practiced you are, it won’t give you the power to turn your enemies into frogs so you can st them on the highway.  That sort of stuff doesn’t happen in real life.   It’s better left to the movies.

So, if the Craft isn’t any of these things, what is it, exactly?  The Craft is accepting, generous, and loving.  It’s gently, unobtrusive, and supportive, It’s an ethical way of life, once embraced, brings immeasurable joy and wonder to everyday living.  Simply put, the Craft is a serious religion……
